Starting a Microchurch
A short, practical course for people ready to gather their first microchurch.
Starting a Microchurch runs online across six evening sessions. Each one lasts one hour and forty-five minutes, and each session moves you a step closer to being ready to gather. You'll hear from practitioners who are doing this work now, you'll talk through the real questions with others in the same position, and you'll leave each evening with a small piece of preparation for the next.
Each week you’ll work on two things:
The first is your plan. You'll build a Microchurch Plan piece by piece — one section at a time — until, by the end of the course, you have a document that says clearly what you're starting, who it's for, how it will gather, and who is gathering it. It's the kind of plan you can show to your sending church and your team, and they'll know what you mean.
The second is your growth. Starting a new Christian community stretches you — spiritually, relationally, personally. Alongside the plan, we'll give attention to the inner work: formation, self-awareness, listening, evangelistic confidence, resilience, working well with others.
The six sessions
1. What is a microchurch? Every microchurch needs certain essential ingredients to be a church rather than just a group — and it starts with the vision God has given you.
2. Knowing your people and place. The people and place you're called to reach should shape everything about your microchurch.
3. Shaping your gathering. What you do when you gather — and how you do it — is what will make your microchurch distinctive.
4. Leading together. You can't do this alone. Knowing yourself well is the first step to leading others.
5. Sharing your faith. A microchurch grows through the ordinary courage of invitation and the natural sharing of life and faith.
6. Ready to go. You have a plan, a team and a calling. Now it's time to be sent.
